THE SUREÑO

 Inspired by 60 Second Docs, this short documentary and photo series explores the life of a Sureño (meaning "Southerner") who is a member of a Mexican gang in California. Miguel (a.k.a. "Silent") was jumped (initiated) into his local gang at the age of 23. Now, he must go to great lengths to protect himself, his family, and his fellow gang members from the omnipresent threat

of inner-city violence.
