Haley's documentary explores how the "myth of the American frontier" and its past and contemporary iterations in American history, entertainment, politics, and popular culture are destructive to the land and people of Montana. The film explores how the myth marginalizes Native American people and history, accelerates the degradation of the state's fragile ecosystems, and exacerbates social and economic disparities among all of Montana's citizens. The film compels us to reflect on how traditional and contemporary Indigenous knowledge can help deconstruct and reimagine this destructive mythology.
